STORIES

i6eight is celebrating ten years of faithful ministry. What started as a response to God’s Word saying “go” is now ten years of God saying “I am with you”. Celebrate with us as we reflect on 10 years of God’s faithfulness and look ahead to all God has planned for us. i6eight is far more than a handful of Americans serving in Mexico and i6eight is far more than a house building ministry. I6eight is a gospel proclaiming, disciple making, compassion ministry that is transforming lives through Christ. Faithfulness to this task requires far more than a few hands. In fact, it takes a small army of people who love Jesus and are called to make His name famous.

Gift a Bible

The Word of God alone has the power to transform the human heart. God's Word has been and continues to be the strategy i6eight employs to accomplish the mission of transforming lives through Christ. We gather together every morning as a team inviting any and all to join us for one purpose - to read scripture together because everything we do centers on the perfect Word of God.

For the month of September, we will be celebrating what God has done through the power of scripture and inviting you to make a difference by purchasing a bible. We want to celebrate not only what God has done, but what he continues to do. This week, we celebrated half a dozen graduations - from high school to college this is a huge feat especially during a pandemic. In addition, we sent another team of 12 locals to serve a local pastor in Ojos Negros. God continues to use i6eight to transform lives and He alone receives the Glory.

The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, enlightening the eyes. Psalm 19

Emmanuel Valenzuela

The i6eight youth center, Mejor Futuro, opened its doors in 2013. Offering the youth of Puerto Peñasco an opportunity for a better future, God has used this space to bring hope to so many local kids. Through the avenue of academic tutoring and mentorship, dozens of students have the opportunity to hear the Gospel.

Our youth director, Emmanuel Valenzuela, has a heart for students, their education, and training mentors. “We are not here just to hand out pencils and backpacks, God is using us to open the doors of heaven to young people in our community.” As the COVID pandemic has been extraordinarily hard for many, it has been devastating for our youth. Forced to stay at home with the extended school closures, the vast majority of local kids are unable to participate in any kind of online school due to lack of resources. They will likely have too large of a gap to return to school if closures continue.

Yet, Emmanuel has found a way to use our youth center to shine a light into the darkness. Continuing to remain open 5 days a week, Emmanuel is dedicated to our community and our kids. He has a desire to see students graduate and passion to see them know Jesus. Not only is he willing to do what it takes, but he is celebrating every student along the way. Please be in prayer for the month of August about supporting Emmanuel and the youth of Peñasco. We are praying fervently that the schools will open their doors this fall, but whatever the outcome, that God would use for His glory.

Wes & Nelly Baker

Originally from Phoenix, Arizona, I decided to quit my job and move to Mexico as a missionary with i6eight at the end of 2016. At the time I really didn't have a clear direction, but I saw that God was moving through i6eight and wanted to be apart of it. God has blessed me immeasurably for taking that step of faith. He has taught me that I only have one purpose and that is to share the gospel that Jesus is the Christ. He has blessed me with an amazing wife (Nelly) and daughter (Valeria) while continuing to lead and guide us as we learn how to more clearly share the gospel. Currently we live and work in Ensenada, Baja California with a ministry called Rancho el Refugio.

We believe that God is calling us to take another step of faith and go to Nelly's home state of Chiapas in Southern Mexico. We don't have a lot of details figured out, but we know what we will be doing, sharing the gospel. We are dedicating the next four months to this unreached people group in hopes that this may be our long term mission field, but waiting on God's leading and timing. Our desire would be to go to an area where Christ is not being preached. Please join us in prayer as we embark on a 2400 mile drive on the 21st of July. Not only for safe travels, but for opportunities to share the gospel. For clarity of direction for our future. That our focus would be enjoying Christ and sharing Christ.

Celeste Valenzuela

Since 2011, Celeste has served faithfully in nearly every ministry within i6eight. She has a heart for the community and currently is using her passions and giftings to lead our local gym. Five days a week, she uses physical fitness to speak life into her community. This has become a family ministry where Celeste, Jonathon, and their daughter Jared minister to dozens of local families, providing a safe place to find physical health and hear the gospel to women like Edi. A woman of more than 60 years, Edi has been a great example for her family. What began as a simple workout to better her health, has become a family commitment. She brings her daughters, daughters-in-law, and now granddaughters to exercise. She has grown with us in so many aspects and it is beautiful to see how she finds this place as a time to laugh as a family and to take care of her health. She has become a great example of perseverance for each of the members of the gym. For the month of June, join us in prayer and financial support for Celeste and see what God is doing through our local fitness center.

Isaiah's Bakery

We are so excited to share the news that our training center - Isaíah’s - is now up and running! Housed alongside our t-shirt printing shop, the vision Lorena shared to open a bakery fit with our mission to share the gospel and bring training opportunities to locals. Serving everything from breakfast rolls to hamburger buns, these women have found purpose working alongside each other. Lorena, Patty, and Esperanza now work 5 days a week to bring accessible meals to locals, supply Angie’s with baked goods, and develop partnerships with the community. God is working through these women to give purpose and be a light to San Rafael. Please consider sponsoring these women for the month of May.

Norma Chavez

"When I came to this organization I brought my heart completely broken with a problem in my marriage and my family destroyed. But when i6eight built my house (Nov 2018) I met true love (Jesus Christ) who healed my heart. They gave me the opportunity of a job, where every day I can bear witness to what God has done and continues to do in my life and in my family. God has changed my relationship with my daughters just like He changed my life, I like to tell all the people who come to the office who have the same or similar problems that I came with, that Jesus Christ can change their life."

Norma is our behind-the-scenes office manager and key coordinator for our Love without Borders program. This month we are sending out two teams of local missionaries to Chiapas and Ensenada, Mexico to share what God has done in their life. Be in prayer this month of how God can use you to reach beyond your own borders and support our locals who now are becoming missionaries themselves.

Pan de Vida

Introducing the women behind Pan de Vida, Teresita, Celia, and Nyeli work our outdoor kitchen which serves hundreds of meals every week. These women not only start cooking at 5am, but they are breaking the chains of hunger in their community. What began as Celia's dream to meet the needs of those around her, has grown into a passion to feed the kids and homeless in one of the most dire neighborhoods of San Rafael. As the kitchen has grown, she recruited Nyeli and her daughter Teresita to help accomplish their mission. They have been transformed by Christ, and now want others to experience the bread of life. Prayerfully consider supporting their ministry as they continue to pour into their community.

Tony & Orfa
Valenzuela

The hands and feet of i6eight, Tony & Orfa have dedicated their lives to sharing the gospel. As our local pastor, i6eight was founded with the simple mission to support the ministry Tony & Orfa were already doing. Moved by God's love, they have one goal- to bring God's love to their community. Having a heart for the lost, their sacrifice often resembles giving away their last dollar and walking home without shoes as there was someone who needed them more. There is simply no limit to what they are willing to sacrifice to save the lost. As most of our ministry happens in their front yard, Tony, Orfa, and their 7 kids pour themselves into the lives of the community every single day. They are bold in their witness to others and their front door is always open. Your support to Tony & Orfra will undoubtedly spread to the community of San Rafael.

And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.”
